Burt says so many important things about what he is doing and how he works that all of it is meaningful for the serious painter. First, Burt does a very precise drawing, spending a good fifteen minutes on developing it. He says this allows him time to decide what the sitter says to him and why he wants to paint her. Then Burt starts working in oil on a toned canvas that he talks about. He lays in the simple figure, makes adjustments, and begins the process of creating this work of art. Burt continually explains what he is doing and what he is thinking. He talks about the flow of the figure, the extreme difficulty of doing a child's portrait, the simplification of the background, and about his wonderful philosophy of painting.

Loved every minute of it. Extremely informative. Watched it over and over. Wish I had a copy.
I thought this was a fairly good representation of the model. There were a few things I was not fussy on but then again, it was great for me being a beginner and watching the paint flow. For a rental I would recommend this for those learning oils. I would not buy it however.
There is so much to be gained by watching an experienced artist work, solve, and refine a painting, particularly, Mr. Silverman. Moreover, he expresses points well and even those silent moments are ones to learn from.
There is never enough to learn from Mr. Silverman, given his vast experience and knowledge. Highly recommend learning from those who articulate their talent and struggles so well.
Another good video from Burt Silverman.
A very nice demonstration of the artist's techniques. Recommended.
