This video will cover building an acoustic guitar neck. John Mayes starts with a Mahogany block and build a 5 piece laminate neck from
Mahogany/rosewood/mahogany/rosewood/mahogany. The video will cover all steps from gluing up the blank, to cutting out the rough shape, design,
neck taper, headstock shaping and drilling, heel shaping, truss rod routing and jigs, making the fretboard, inlaying the dots on the fretboard, side dots through
final carving to profile.
Plus additional features such as a blooper reel.

Mayes is a wonderful teacher. He is knowledgeable, he his humble, he takes the time to review difficult portions in detail and has the common sense and courtesy to speed through repetitive or simple tasks to get to the meat of the knowledge and techniques. I have bought or rented every DVD he's put out with the exception of the new inlay course and I liked them all very much. If you rent them, pull out a pen & paper because you will want to make notes on his techniques, tips, vendors & jigs. He uses modest equipment, good technique & horse-sense … and he makes the lessons fun. One couldn't ask for more in a luthiery instruction video. If he made a book to accompany these DVD's I'd order it the day it became published.
Enjoyed them very much I learned a lot. Great way of showing how he uses different woods to make his guitar necks
This DVD is for the Acoustic guitar neck making/building, But you can apply the idea into Solid or electric guitar neck making. It will show you how to set the inlay dots, side dots, neck profile /( How to copy exact back contour of your favorite guitar...check it out at Stewart Macdonald site)...
