In this video, the artist starts the painting with a neutral wash over which he loosely brushes the position of his sitter. In the beginning he explains what it means to be a portrait painter, the difficulties, objectives and purposes. He is always full of anecdotes and insights into the painting process, making this total demonstration video that much more enjoyable. From the loose drawing, Silverman rethinks the figure's position and correct the size. He makes one feel totally comfortable about making corrections. You can see every stroke that is made, every color used clearly, and listen to what this artist is thinking.

Very good, very informative. I really like the way Burt paints with absolute freedom.
I learned a lot from this dvd. Mr. Silverman really explains things well and his technique is a bit different that what I have seen from other artists but is quite good. I enjoyed it a lot.
I thought it was really good in that it makes you feel that you can paint in any way that works for you and you don't have to follow a certain rule pattern. You can change your mind and your plan pretty much at anytime.
Really enjoyed the calm, laid back style of the artist. He certainly took away any fear of mistakes or making changes in any painting, particularly a portrait. I thoroughly enjoyed this tape.
this was a fabulous DVD. Burton is terrific, articulate, great construction of the form, masterful in color choices and even though the palette is never seen, you can see the "clean" color mixtures throughout his execution. His lighting was terrific, essence of the model captured likeness/personality and relaxed pose made it so enjoyable that I watched it several times. I laughed when I saw his brushes as I would not have anticipated that he did so much "scumbling" to achieve those placements...so I was surprised and delighted throughout the demonstration! Would like to see more Oil workshops by Burton Silverman
