Beginning with a full fleece, you will learn proper skirting, sorting and scouring techniques as you prepare the fiber for dyeing. The applying of color to protein
fibers before the fibers are spun is easy and fun. First, learn step-by-step how to use the dyes and dye your fibers in a dyepot.
(Deb will be working with Lanaset Dyes.)
A color wheel is used as a reference to figure out how to mix your own colors and create your own dye formulas. A second approach to applying color on fibers
is to directly paint dye onto unspun roving. You will also learn how to use the painted fibers to create complex, repeatable multicolored yarns.
Prerequisites:
A basic knowledge of spinning wool, plus a desire to become more colorful!
(about 73 minutes)
This video includes many wonderful ways to prepare fiber for spinning, using both drum carder and combs. The focus is on how to use fibers that have
already been dyed to create multicolored yarns. It starts with drum carding "101" - how to effectively choose and use a drum carder. Then it's on to blending
colors to create new colors. You'll learn how to get predictable results, how to blend luxury fibers, & how to create multicolored drum carded batts so the
colors stay clear and bright. Multicolored yarns can also be created using combs. By using already combed and dyed solid wool top, the multi-colors will be
created by using a multistep process of arrangement of colors on wide combs or hackles. Designing plied yarns with color effects in mind concludes this video workshop.
Prerequisites:
It is assumed that you are familiar with the basic knowledge of spinning teminology and that you can sucessfully spin and ply wool yarn.

Very detailed and complete intro to acid dyeing. Immersion and roving in separate presentations. I would recommend this video to others (like me) who want to do dyeing of wool.
I'm a big fan of Deb Menz's books, but I really appreciated being able to watch her actually demonstrate the techniques on this video. She's a terrific teacher. I think i'm actually going to buy this video.
This video is very easy to follow. Instructions are clear. Wonderful video!
I didn't want to return this one, wanted to keep it and watch it a few more times, especially to watch the dyeing part. Deb Menz presents a short overview of skirting a fleece, then she does a good segment on how to wash handfuls of locks. She covers the math part of preparing dye solution which was very informative and she does a good job of having a display/blackboard to show the math so If you don't already have her book you will want to have a notebook handy. I have her book but but found watching and listening to her demonstrate the calculations very helpful. Achieving values of color are discussed. This video only covers immersion dyeing but it is a great introduction to fiber dyeing. It is paced at good stopping points so you can work along with her. I highly recommend it and am considering buying it.
Very informative and sparked the creative fire!
