Product availability: very long wait
Excellent look into the world of modifying the venerable 1911 from top to bottom. From tightening up old surplus to tricking out a new in box; this is the series for you.
A must for all 1911 owners, surplus collectors, and hobbyists.
If you like to build a 1911 then this video is a must see. However, they do recommend a lot of expensive tool that the home-gunsmith probably will not have.
GREAT Video-Full of priceless information!!!!Would recommend this to anyone who like their 45 to work.
Very informative, with excellent close up scenes of the work being done. I plan on viewing more videos of this type and I will definitely rent them from Technical Video Rental.
Really complete coverage of the subject. Clear instructions, well visualized and presented. Recommended, especially if you have tools and are handy.
Very informative. Lots of tips especially on fitting of slide and barrel, competition trigger work. Much of the information requires specialized tools, referrring to tools available from Brownell's. All of the tools are available from Brownell's, making the DVD's appear like a Brownell's commercial. The special tools make it easier to build a 1911, but I would've preferred more everyday tools for hand fitting of the 1911. Overall the DVD's are a good set overviewing most of the issues involved in building and fitting of a 1911. Combining this set and the Wilson Combat set will cover everything you needed to know in building 1911.
Gene really knows his stuff. Great dvd. I've used this dvd to already help fix problems with my Rock Island .45. This one gets a five.
One picture is worth a thousand words. Seeing the process is the way to go! Excellent gunsmith/narrator gets all the points covered. I really learned a lot and enjoyed this one!
For the do-it-yourself gunsmith this is the DVD to watch. It does not matter is you have 30 min. or 30 years experience you will find something useful. A true gold mine of information!!!
Good Video. Rent it and then get the Jerry Kuhnhausen books from Brownells and you'll be set.

I have to say that I have been interested in seeing this video for awhile. I had read some mixed reviews and could never justify the price tag. Renting it was a good investment. I now can say it's worth the money and have actually bid on this item on EBAY. It is the best video I have seen so far on the 1911.

Good information for anyone needing to add any parts to their pistol. Covers each part and its fit.
Just what I was looking for! Answered all of my questions. Highly recommend.
I enjoyed it very much. I am building a 1911A1 and have never even owned one so this video was great.
Very easy to follow. The instructor shows every detail envolved in building a 1911. I would recommend this video to anybody who wants to add some upgrades to their 1911 pistol.
I have found that just about any video done with Gene Shuey as the instructor is very informative. I don't think anybody would be disappointed being instructed by him.
I am a life long weapons enthusiast. I've owned several 1911's and did my own maintenance and upkeep. Now that I've retired I'm interested in becoming a shade tree armorer. This is the best video I've ever seen on basic maintenance and up-mod of the 1911 to a race gun.
Good videos excellent service from Smart Flix.
Very good instructions on the subject, but expect emphasis on the use of expensive commercial jigs for many operations.
I got the entire series and it was well worth learning more about the 1911.
A very good basic treatment of tuning up the 1911. Nothing fancy. Just good workmanship and basic techniques. Follow these steps, apply some basic shop knowledge and you will have a very nice 1911.
Great learning tool, I wish they can make the same video with less special tools. They use a special tool for everything, but in general I think everybody looking to build a 1911 should watch it.
Painful to watch, but excellent detail is given to the 1911. Have used a number of the suggestions made. Well worth viewing if you can stay awake through it.
Very informative, this is for the advanced gunsmith. I did like the detailed why we do it this way he provided.
Well done lots of good info. Will have to buy a lot of specialty tools though.
Excellent vid, as with all of his DVDs they are very monotone you may need to replay some chapters after you wake up. As for the information and technical info very good, with a lot of how to and why. I highly recommend this for anyone that loves JB's 1911.
A good set of videos for anyone who owns a 1911, or is thinking of buying/building one. I'm planning my own build soon and the things I learned from this set combined with some literature I already had is going to make the process go much smoother. The only negative is that they present the process using a lot of tools most of us hobby smiths don't have, so take it FWIW. I enjoyed these videos, there is a lot of good info in them. My biggest complaint is that I couldn't keep them longer. As for smartflix, videos arrived in good shape and returning them was easy, I'll most likely rent other titles in the future.
This entire series is excellent but to me the last part of the series, the building of a high capacity race gun was more polished and thorough than the previous instruction.
Very informative video. I will certainly be renting more.
Five Star DVDs from AGI. Highly recommended for 1911 handgun owners.
Excellent Video, Would highly Recommend for anyone who likes tinkering with 1911s.
Very good video. Gene Shuey is an excellent teacher on the subject!
