When designing automobiles, the ability to sketch well is absolutely essential. The skill of showing a design on paper enables the designer to communicate with others. In a step-by-step demonstration Harald will share his approach to quick sketching, design strategy, styling tips, and the process he takes to finalize a design direction. He concludes with the execution a final line drawing that presents a dynamic view of his vehicle.

This demo deals with the integration of a rendered vehicle into a city environment. This is a basic step-by-step of how to render a vehicle, set up a photo of a cityscape, and integrate the vehicle so that it looks like it is truly in the scene. This is not a full-blown matte painting, but a quick way to show how vehicles are rendered and placed for a motion picture application...quick and powerful, with dramatic lighting.
The software used in this DVD is Adobe Photoshop.

The ability to design a car is not something anyone can just pick up by taking a class or drawing for a few weeks. It requires a serious amount of dedication and many hours of practice. Harald will take you step-by-step through his design process and give you a look into the complexity and challenges of designing a vehicle similar to the one he designed for Minority Report. In addition, he will also introduce one of the cars he designed for Hotwheels(R), and take you through each step of its design process. At the end of the lecture he quickly renders a car's side-view within Adobe Photoshop(R), and shows some of the many tricks he uses to complete a powerful presentation of the design.

Very revealing, very intuitive look into both Photoshop rendering as well as preliminary layout/design of vehicles. While this film will not grant the un-inspired (or perspective-challenged) a ticket to the big show, it most certainly will help transform your ideas from the sketch-pad to a polished rendering if you put in the time. The 5th DVD is especially useful for general purpose Industrial Design / 2D Rendering techniques. Overall a very worthwhile DVD set, and it's always a joy to simply watch a master like Harald at work.
Harald's Props DVD is quite good. Its focus is on rendering and NOT ideation. If you want help with the generative process this isn't the DVD for you. If you want practical tips that you can apply immediately to your digital paint process, this is a good one. Some excellent tips on chrome and brushed stainless and buttons.
