The Organic Modeling titles cover the entire process of modeling a multi-patch head with Maya. Using a 200 surface head as an example, we go over all of the steps involved in it's creation. O.M.1 focuses on the construction of the detail surfaces such as the eyes, nose, mouth, ears and horns. We discuss how to cleanly sculpt the masses of the head using a variety of tools while focusing on technique and workflow.

While there are several methods for creating a character, patch modeling can yield the cleanest results. It allows for high amounts of localized detail, clean parameterization for texture mapping, and the use of stitching tools. O.M.2 continues from where O.M.1 leaves off, where once the overall form of the head has been defined, and the detail surfaces modeled, one begins unifying them into a cohesive surface network.
