See master craftsman John Glover demonstrate his understanding of the trade he has enjoyed nearly 50 years. This video covers:
* Proper setup of the English Wheel
* How to track properly
* How to form a crown in a piece
* How to "wheel" round pieces
* How to remove or let out too much crown
* Use and readings of templates
Learning to track properly is the sole foundation for making smooth compound curves and being able to blend curves into flat areas.
This is the first time this information has been published, if you are interested in the "Wheel" don't miss this important demonstration.

John's main focus in this video is tracking techniques, for good reason as he deems that to be the key to proper form when using this machine. However it did tend to make this video longer than necessary in my view. Through editing, all of the information would have still been there while moving the demonstration along. If I had one other criticism, it would be what I felt was a bit of a vague description on how to set pressures. I did like his use of a blackboard to illustrate what he was doing on the wheel as quite often cameras have a hard time showing the viewer whats happening.
I ordered Basic Wheeling for a retired friend. This mans hobby is metal working. He purchased an English wheel over the internet. He had never seen a wheel or see it work. We watched it together and then he went right to work praticing on the wheel. If he did not watch this DVD, he has no Idea how he wouyld have learned to use it. He was very happy. A lifetime of information, just by watching an expert. Thank You, R Ellis
This video is a very basic instructional video on the English Wheel and is not recommended because it is not edited. The instructor spends 90+ minutes showing how to put a small bend in a 1 foot square piece of sheet metal. It then goes on to 2 other similar projects showing the entire operation. This video could be much better if it was edited down to 15-30 minutes of instruction.
Very good video, wish it went into a little more depth than just a basic low crown shape
Exactly as described..... BASIC WHEELING. If you are expecting anything more forget it. That being said, other reviewers said it could have been edited to 15 minutes. I disagree in that anyone who has no knowledge of wheeling should become quite aware of how tedious it is to move metal on the wheel. So watching John Glover explain and demo tracking patterns is a little boring but very real. Learn to track properly (practice, practice, practice)and as it becomes automatic and you gain an understanding of how the metal moves... then it's time to move on to the other videos out there.
