Lots and lots of information for clock makers and general machinists: eight ways to index a lathe, making index plates, cutting geer teeth, concave and convex turning, repairing clock gears, using a Sherline for radial drilling (!!), transfering points from one cylinder to another, modifying a sewing machine motor, measuring and using springs, etc. This is a huge grab-bag of techniques that will come in handy in all sorts of areas: clock making, engine making, and general machining.

This certainly is a grab bag of techniques. Mainly of use for clockmakers and owners of Myford lathes, although information might be extrapolated for other uses and other brands of lathes.
It is certainly intersting to watch Bill Smith at work, and a video well worth getting even if only for that.
If you want to learn how to make a disc from a flate plate (trepanning) on the lathe without sawing it out, have a desire to make some dividing plates, and do some milling on the lathe get this.
Stright foward and informative. I would recommend renting if you are interested in this subject.
We found the presentation to be clear and informative. I'd recommend this video to a craftsman running a shop ... beginner or expert. There's always something to learn.
Very good video. The narration by WR Smith is monotone but his descriptions are good. This video is more toward those who have Myford lathes. I thought it would have more information on Sherline equipment, but only a little bit. It still is an interesting video to watch. You can see lots of techniques and methods used to overcome challenges. Each of the methods used looks like it involves lots of time, materials and skill to build the adaptive tooling. This man is a master and worth seeing. He refers to "Tooling the workshop for clockmakers", so it would be better to view that first before this one.
WR is a great teacher - simple and to the point. Easy to implement ideas. Anyone with lathe aspirations should take the time to view his DVDs.
Overall a great video but not necessarily for the beginner. It was very cool to see all the different techniques used to create different parts and how machines can be setup. I have a small CNC machine so some of the setups to get around or maintain accuracy were not always applicable but still great information.
The DVD was easy to understand and the author is obviously an expert. Thank you.
Great information for a small machine shop that needs to maximize the utility of limited space and machines. Be sure to take notes for later reference or you will forget all of the great ideas that Bill has compiled.
The video was excellent. I have Mr. Smith's book of the same title, and the video augments the book well. There are no other sources for me to get this information at a reasonable price. Machine shop, clock servicing and clock making are not taught here as a part any community college sponsored programs. I will rent the remainder of Mr. Smith's videos.
