When building this 2,400-square-foot log home, we used traditional log construction plus some unusual log-framing methods and some stick framing. This allowed us to incorporate design features not typically associated with log construction such as a window wall and soaring ceilings.
We pour a foundation using insulated concrete forms; lay up a fieldstone veneer over the foundation walls; set the log walls, purlins, rafters, and trusses; roof the home with concrete shingles; and install southern pine beadboard ceilings.
Featured are the electrical rough-in; framing the window wall with laminated veneer lumber; staining and chinking the logs; building the sauna in the lower level; setting the stone and tile floors; and installing a Finnish soapstone masonry heater.
Focuses on some of the special features of the home including the coffered ceiling in the lower level, the log stairways and railings, and the windows.
Highlights include application of a decorative interior plaster system and tours of the finished home.
