Maple Leaf Sculptures

...with George Goehl

Sculpture how-to video: Maple Leaf Sculptures by George Goehl 5_bulb Review this video!

Making Copper & Brass Maple Leaf Sculptures is another in the series of designs that are versatile in terms of size and complexity.

You can do single leaves, small sprays or large sprays. Material and tools are rather basic.

Once you have the fundamentals down, you can transfer these techniques to any of the other broad leaves, such as sassafras, oak etc.

By mixing copper and brass you have the properties of fall colors. Bringing out the colors inherent in copper (reds, greens and blues) is accomplished by flame coloring.

To cut out the copper maple leaves I'll show you a rather un-orthodox method for cutting copper into the preferred shape.

* The Maple Leaf Pattern
* Cutting Copper Leaves with a Torch
* Cutting Brass Leaves
* Brazing Rod
* Stems for leaves
* Wire Brushing for Flame Coloring
* The Single Maple Leaf
* Forming Branches
* Assembling Frame
* Attaching Leaves
* Hooks for Hanging
* Making a Small Maple Leaf Spray
* Making a simple Bender for Forming Branches.

I have to say at this time I like Georges DVD's on metal sculpture, I feel after watching 3 or 4 of them I have the info that Ican do the subject matter with out a lot of working out the details. But yet with the info cotained in his DVDs you can just about cut the time down to next to nothing no matter what the subject is. His tricks and ideas on this type of work make it easy to do. And to answer the question about why he doesn't have a lot about the torch in his sculpture DVDs I will say he has a very complete DVD on torch and gas brazing.

Lots of great tidbits. Saves you a lot of time and money learning what not to do. Well worth the money.
