Master Class VI: Rudi Gritsch, the Austrian kiln forming artist and instructor takes viewers through many of his processes involving the kiln. We follow Mr. Gritsch as he takes his work from the initial phases of design through the detailed setups, firings, and finishing processes, to completed works of art.

Excellent video. I have taken a class with Rudi Gritsch and he is very knowledgeable and a good teacher. This video is an excellent supplement. It shows the completion of longer processes than the 1 week class permitted. I wish it were an hour longer.

Fantastic kiln working video. Its only 30 minutes but there is a lot of info packed in!
I found this video to be very interesting in terms of what can be accomplished if you have BIG tools.
Mr. Gritsch is a very accomplished artist, but most of the techniques he demonstrated required very large kilns, expensive, high-power glass saws or other tools not generally available to a small time glass artist with limited funds.
That being said, the processes he explained were fascinating, such as creating colorful blocks of glass by melting and casting multiple layers of stained glass, and creating art objects by sawing, beveling and polishing cutoffs from the previously created cast glass blocks.
The challenge for me is how to scale down these techniques for use in my small 12 inch kiln, without a heavy-duty glass saw, or a glass beveling and polishing machine.
If you are an admirer of warm glass art and would like to see how it is created you will enjoy this video. If you are looking for new techniques to use in a small sized warm glass operation, this video may not be exactly what you're looking for.
I loved the gleams I got from this video. Rudi is a beautiful artist and I found this to be inspiring. More of an overview, yet very insightful. I look forward to trying some new things!!
