Note: this video covers a "magic wand" project, but contains useful information on brazing, fluxing, cold-working metal, and doing medium and small scale metal sculptures. I recommend it for the particular project it covers, but more so for the information applicable to other projects.
The author says:
"Why Magic Wands?
Since 1973 I have made my living designing, crafting and selling metal sculpture. Most pieces that I make are consistent good sellers. Magic Wands, however, are in a class of their own. Their popularity has been overwhelming! Here's the story... As I said, I have been designing and crafting decorative metal work for almost thirty years. To date I have never created anything that appeals to so many different people for so many different reasons. Plus, I like to create pieces that are fun! Who buys the Wands? Stress Busters - Therapists buy wands for their clients. You cannot blow bubbles and be stressed out. Grandparents buy wands for their grandchildren. They are purchased for weddings as gifts and in place of rice.. Some people don't use them for bubbles, but as decorative accessories. One woman buys them by the dozen and gives them to friends when they turn fifty. Another woman buys them because she thinks they have a medieval appearance."
Using the very simplest of tools and materials you can create a vast array of unique Magic Wands. Over fifty original designs included to get you started. Once you have gone through the video and learned the basic steps, you can stop the video and study a design. Then you can duplicate the design and before long you'll be off onto your own designs. After watching the video just once one person, who has no metal working experience. said, "Hey, even I can do that"!

Well, if you're interested in making magic wands, which I found out I'm not, this is a great video for you. It goes over everything you need to know, except torch selection and set up, to create magic wands with very simple supplies and tools. Each step is shown in detail and explained very clearly. I rated this video based on it's content not my interest in it. I would have given it a top rating if George had provided a little primer on torch selection and set up.
Instructions were clear and concise - well done! I have not tried building one, still in the scrounging stage.
Absolutely fascinating. I don't plan to make magic wands, but I found this to be an excellent companion to George's videos "Getting Started with Metal Sculpture" and "Brazing with the Oxy-ACetlyne Torch" (both 5 star videos). The other two are basic, theoretical videos, although with some examples - but here, he builds wire sculpture after sculpture. You see the technique, the decision-making, problem-solving, the setup, the finish, the equipment - and everything is explained perfectly clearly. An outstanding job - and an enjoyable hour. I promise you'll learn something you can use.
As with all of his video's covers the subject matter like a blanket. Good views of everything he does. shows what you need and the tools to make them. Plus the bonus of 50 ideas are great. Even if you are only looking for something to make for gifts or to put the rest the complaints about why you bought the welder.
This dvd is brilliantly made and covers every detail you could want to make these wands. George Goehl is a perfect instructor, I will be renting many more of his videos.
For those working in oxy/acetylene this is an easy to understand DVD. The presenter made the work seem easy. It dwells quite a bit on very similar designs so it's fairly repetitive but it was enjoyable nonetheless.
