What a great video! If your looking to service your old amp or turn a silverface into a blackface, get this DVD! He goes over everything need to do the change and update your amp! It's not that hard! His main focus is tubes, after all these are tube amps. He cover those in depth and how to bias the tubes for proper setup! He also goes into how to check/replace filter caps, transformers, tube sockets, etc.
Great video! Even thogh the guy is kinda goofy looking, he knows his stuff! I've got to give it 4 1/2 stars - nothing is perfect, but this is pretty close!
I didn't get a chance to cover the last chapter on hot-roding and stuff...it's a long DVD. I'll be renting this one again; The wait is usually several weeks, so get on the list early!
This is an excellent overview of how tube amps work and how to service them. The three programs on this dvd were originally released as three seperate vhs tapes so getting them all on one dvd is an excellent value. The discussion and instruction by host Gerald Weber is very understandable and sometimes entertaining. Outstanding!
Very informative and entertaining, a good DIY video for someone with moderate electronics skills. Dangerous High voltage is present in most amplifiers, but should not be a problem if all safety precautions are followed. Information presented is clear and relevant.
Fantastic! Weber is the brains behind one of america's best guitar amp producers and also a player. This is the disc that brought me to Smartflix and the rental was absolutely worth the money. These are the skills that are hard to acquire and what better to learn from the master.
Fun stuff. Covers theory of tube operation and then jumps right into old amp servicing and repair. I've been building tube amps from scratch lately and learned a lot about how the old one's were built.
This DVD is amazing! He covers just about anything you'd want to know from the most elementary things (draining the high voltage properly) to blackfacing a silverface amp. I wish I would have seen this sooner, it would have saved me lots of money at the amp tech! He is very thorough and doesn't assume you know how to do things so he patiently goes through each step, and doesn't skip ahead to a finished job. A MUST have for anyone wishing to do amp maintenance and servicing.
It was great and informative. Gerald does a good job and I was mostly interested in the Fender amps and I learned what I needed to know...
This is a very thorough lesson in troubleshooting and fixing your tube amplifier. I highly recommend it anyone into tube amplifiers.
Very good DVD. Not only did I learn a lot but I enjoyed watching this DVD. Good Job!
Great dvd. Very helpful. Gerald Weber is a cool dude.
Very good information. The guy is a little goofy, but he knows his stuff and seems like a nice person. Really taught me a lot about tube amps and how they operate. More importantly, how to work on them. If you love vinatge tube amps, then you must get this DVD!
Super dvd, very informative. It goes to a very useful level technical level.
This guy is amazing. In this set of lessons about tube amps, Mr Weber gives a relaxed account of his troubleshooting and building philosophies which for a novice such as myself, removed much of the mystery. I just finished my first amp build and have successfully repaired two non-operating amplifiers and modified another within 45 days of watching this video. Great stuff!
