Garand Old Time

...with Lenny Magill

Armorer's Courses how-to video: Garand Old Time by Lenny Magill 4_bulb Review this video!

The rugged, reliable M1 Garand Rifle - General Patton called it "The finest battle implement ever devised by man". This weapon gave the U.S. Infantryman Fire superiority over any other standard infantry rifle during WWII. This video is a history, encyclopedia, and manual for the M1 Garand Rifle and demonstrates proper disassembly, reassembly, and the correct method of loading the 8-round clip.

Tons of info on the M1. It really explains the history, operation, dissassembly/reassembly and nuances of the M1. Exceeded expectations. A must view for the M1 owner

Lenny McGill must have acquired this video from someone else. It falls far below his usual production standards. The video looks like it was shot in someone's garage with a hand-held camera. While providing a fair amount of technical information in the latter parts of the show, the Garand history is a poorly done rehash of information already well-known to any reasonably informed Garand owner or collector. The guy who reads the script -- slowly and painfully -- is just awful. The section on disassembly and nomenclature relies on the "magic hands" technique. The gunsmith doing the work never allows more than his hands and forearms to be seen, which makes it difficult to understand the manipulations. (Perhaps he is in the federal witness protection program.) If you can force yourself to sit through this grotesque production, there are a few worthwhile nuggets of information buried near the end. In general, I think customer's would be better served by the AGI M1 Garand Armorer's course.

Great starter film for knowledge and background. Excellent for assembly/disassembly.
