Excellent! Steve explains things very clearly and he gives great pointers on how to think about the kinds of careful and subtle motions that are required to master this skill.
I used this video set as a beginner and was very happy with it.
My only regret is that I took a course at a local artist guild. I would have learned much more in my first weekend if I had redirected the money I spent on the course, bought an arc welder and rented this video.
Highest marks!
When learning to weld you have to be able to see the weld pool to understand how to weld properly. The video in this video is excellent. Steve walks you through the arc welding process on step at a time with clear and easy to follow demonstrations. The only negative I can say is that Steve is a welder NOT an actor. I highly recommend this video.
Great video. Many close up demonstrations of puddle control in vertical Up/Down, horizontal, overhead, and flat with 6013, 6011/6010, and 7018. I highly recommend this video.
Well laid out, easy to follow. I was able to learn a lot from it.
For those learning to weld and who don't have access to (or cannot afford) night school/trade school courses on the subject, this is an excellent place to start. The footage of the molten puddle and how to "read" it are easily worth the price of this rental. Highly recommended. Save yourself some time and rent BOTH DVDs.
I have never welded in my life and was looking for a basic how to. This was more than I expected and I'm very pleased with what I saw. I was able to see the weld puddle in the video and I now understand and know that a good puddle is the key to a good weld job. I recommend these videos for anyone seeking to learn or expand their basic welding skils.
Excellent. (It) gave good explanations and also some work hints for a better weld job. Along with the 2nd video, this series is very much worth it.
I found the information on puddle control extremely helpful. The information on arc welding equipment was good, but seemed a little light. I don't know if it helps much in choosing a welding machine for home or shop. Overall, I found it worth the investment of time and money.
Of the DVDs that I have rented here, this is by far the best. The material is well organized and well presented. The welder knows what he's talking about, speaks clearly and uses good grammar, and makes an interesting presentation. The video uses professional graphics to help make the points and is very informative without getting too technical.
I think this presentation is very good. I got a lot of good information and techniques from this video. It is done by someone who is experienced in the field and is a good and easy to understand teacher.
This was a good intro to welding. Although the video clips of the actual welding beads seemed repetitive, the visual contrast of a bead that was going down too hot versus one going down too cool was very useful. The video took a lot of the mystery out of welding. I recommend it, especially for the beginner welder.
Great views of the weld puddle. This helped me know what to look for even though I was starting with TIG.
Absolutely OUTSTANDING video for introduction to arc welding!
It covers all the questions and concerns that I as a "first timer" had.
The discussions re equipment were just the right depth and level of detail.
The discussion (and especially the actual pictures) re starting the arc and building the bead by controlling the "puddle" were far more informative and useful than all the written descriptions that I have read.
I must have watched the actual instructional welding technique chapter at least 10 times. Just wish that the rental was longer.
This is an excellent video, but as a beginner I found #1 more applicable to my immediate needs and spent most of my available time watching it.
I rented #1 & #2 as a set and I guess that I was "spoiled" by #1!
Excellent. I have been using my welder to melt metal together for several years. Now, I weld. Steve's explanations and close-up shots of the welding process make the concepts very easy to understand.
Stick welding is hardly rocket science, but it's easy to do wrong. These videos have made a world of difference in my welding ability.
Excellent, thorough coverage of the material in question. Surprisingly clear shots of welding; good supporting illustrations as well (Kudos to the producer!) Have a notebook on hand and the remote ready -- You'll want to be able to pause it to take notes on a regular basis.
Arc welding series was great. Absolutely recommend it to any one interested in learning the art of ARC welding. Loaded with easy to understand and follow safety and welding info. I felt I could begin running beads immediately after viewing DVDs. Watched them several times! I have recently purchased an AC arc welder and am ready to begin! Thank You!
The first CD is great for explaining the basics of welding. The second CD is comprised of practical applications of the basics to all of the types of welds. The graphics are excellent, and allows the viewer to see what "watching the puddle" is supposed to look like. The second CD is a must view.
On par with his other welding videos- very good
A good stick welding video- I recommend it
Worth its weight in gold.
You see what the weld beads look like from the weldors point of view. The voice over during the welding helps to make sense of the process.
Also, a fine job of showing things that aren't correct and results.
If you want to see what arc welding is about, a fine choice.
It is not a video on "How to weld your project", its all about the welding technique.
Get disc 2, its just more of the same, only greater!
As a follow up to my glowing praise of disc 1.....
Fantastic!
If you are already familiar with the basics of arc welding (the buzz box and rods), skip disc 1 and go right to disc 2.
This is almost all welding bead examples. Miter welding, overhead, butt and lap joints and more.
I watched disc 1 and 2, got a feel for the sights and sounds of proper technique.
I thought this DVD was excellent! I highly recommend it to any beginning welder. It gives a lot of good basic information from safety to rod types and welding positions. Great DVD!
I'm just getting into welding and I found this video to be better than the community college class that I'm taking for welding... in terms of information. It's one thing to learn passively and another to get in there and weld metal, but this course filled the void for me to get a general set of sticks and choose a decent stick welder.
Steve's welding videos are very well done. If you want to learn about any type of welding, Steve will show how it's done. You can see the weld puddle clearly. Have a notepad ready to copy Steve's welding charts. Get all of his videos, you'll be glad you did.
Nicely done but it covers too much in too short a time and doesn't spend enough time on any one area of arc welding.
Having never welded before, this video proved quite informative.
Steve is great in these videos. Arc Welding 1 in particular gives an excellent treatment of how to control the molten puddle and how to recognize what it is doing. This important topic is demonstrated for horizontal, vertical and overhead welds.
Great filtered views of welds in progress, with examples of incorrect voltage settings, and different types of rod. Good stuff for the beginner.
Steve sitting at the table with his helmet on, holding an electrode the whole time during his narration is pretty funny.
All of the welding DVDs I rented featuring Steve Bleile were just great. I've never welded in my life but I wanted to learn more about the processes. I'd recommend these to anyone.
