Carving how-to video: Sharpening Simplified by Everett Ellenwood 4_bulb Review this video!

To succeed at hand carving, your tools must be sharp. All edge tools get dull, so a simple repeatable technique is needed. I have no complaint about the quality of the "Sharpening Simplified" video and service from "Technical Video" is excellent. The complaint I have is with the one week return policy. This is a lot of information to absorb in one week and if you want to find out how busy you are then just try to fit somethig like this into your schedule... Anyway, it was very helpful to me and the company is excellent to do business with. I look forward to renting more videos from them..

I found after viewing this video that their are other ways to "skin a cat". The demonstrator validates the tital of the video - "Sharpening Simplifed". The author is not out to sell you the most expensive equipment to get the optimum results. Simple but efficient - anyone can do it.

On a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best, I rate these instructional videos, "Sharpening Simplified" and "Basic Woodcarving," as definite 10's! The level of professional presentation; the clarity of explanation; and the obvious depth of experience make these videos a true value for both beginners and seasoned carvers. They are obviously an accumulation of a lifetime of tried and perfected experiences. You can't go wrong on these titles.

I have just completed the DVD and thought it was great! I mean as good as a sharpening video could be. (some think to be boring) Here's why,the viewer is presented with techniques that stay with you after the video is done. I will have these practical skills with me for a life time.

Ellenwood's Sharpening Simplified is a classic on sharpening carving tools. It is fully comprehensive and an excellent source for how-to sharpen most all your shop tools. I'd give it ten stars.

Very nice. Every woodworker should watch this. Keep your knives, cutters, shapers, chisels, planes and more sharpened regularly to avoid the electric grinder wheel. Easy hand sharpening techniques to keep that sharpened edge.

Good video, I wish they had more closeups of what he was doing. However, it was very helpful besides this.

Did I get the same DVD as the rest of you? The content was fine, good sound, knowledgeable guy, but the camera angles and lighting were awful for anything close up. He'd try to show you how polished a surface was, and he could see it in the light from his angle, but the camera was from a slightly different angle so I couldn't see what he was trying to demonstrate. Or how a nick in the cutting edge shows up in the wood. I wish he had used a monitor when he was filming, so he could have seen what it would look like to the viewer. This could have been very good and informative, but I found it frustrating in places.
