Working in a Vacuum

...with Darryl Keil

Furniture Making how-to video: Working in a Vacuum by Darryl Keil 5_bulb Review this video!

For those comfortable with veneering basics who want to learn more advanced techniques, this video explores the possibilities of veneering curved and shaped work. With a vacuum press woodworkers are introduced to a host of veneering and laminating options. Projects that were previously too difficult can be easily executed by using vacuum. This video covers: constructing curved forms, creating curved panels, veneering a cylinder and bull nose shelf using two step gluing techniques, applying veneer to moldings, and laminating an arched jam and spiral staircase stringer - as well as a section on pump and bag maintenance. Every project is thoroughly examined and demonstrated. If you want to maximize vacuum's potential in your shop "Working in a Vacuum" can help advance your veneering skill.

This is the best information I have been able to get on this subject. I learned a lot.

I learned a lot from this video. I have used a vacuum press for infrequent curved panels and veneering work for several years. The styrofoam formwork and the bladder demonstrations were completely new information for me .

I would recommend this video. The author is owner of a company supplying vacuum clamping equipment and is as helpful on the phone as he is in this video.

It was informative. However, you probably would need an expensive vacuum system to perform the projects.
