Alsolutely delighted with this video. Painstakingly detailed, and camera perspective really allows the viewer to get in there and see what's happening. Tons of information, no matter what your medium.
Very clear presentation. Shows complete steps from beginning to end. Worthwhile renting.
As far as instructional sculpting videos go, I would put this one very close to the top. Very in-depth and thorough. Not my choice of clay but I think it translates no matter what type you may be into. Great step by step progression. I think for someone just starting to sculpt the human head or even one who has more experience, this video would serve both persons well. Rent it and you won’t be sorry you did.
I was a little disappointed in this video. Although he is a good sculptor, I did not find that he was a good instructor and did not learn as much as from my previous choices. Also, didn't like the medium he used.
Amazing video! Smartflix is such a great site for wannabe artists!!
Very good instructional video! Mark gives tons of information on technique, tools, plus where to buy the type of clay he is using in this project.
I hoped to learn how to sculpt a human head and this DVD did not provide that type of instruction.
The sculptor's abilities are quite impressive and it was interesting to watch a human head being created but the thought processes and techniques involved in how to form the features and achieve a certain result were not discussed as I had hoped.
However, after the head and features were created, the process for achieving realistic skin texture was discussed in depth and that was very informative. In fact, the title of this DVD should be "How to Achieve Incredibly Realistic Skin Texture on Clay Sculpted Heads"
Good for watching if you just want to watch someone sculpt.
Of course he is an excellent sculptor, but not a teacher. Like I said nice video if you want to watch someone sculpt.
The artist shows how to sculpt a human head from the rough beginning to a highly detailed sculpture. I've watched half a dozen or more sculpting DVD's, but this one is easily my favorite having watched it countless times. It helped me with my very first sculpture: a detailed 9 inch tall T-Rex head.
A big 'thumbs up' for this video! It is so well done; excellent instruction of sculpting a head of clay. I truly appreciated it. Would highly recommend it for those just starting to learn clay sculpture.
Insightful! The use of basic structural and anatomical nomenclature drove home the importance of familiarizing oneself with every detail of the human anatomy. The detailed analysis of the inner areas of the ear helped me to get a grasp on the why's and wherefore of sculpting the ear.
