If you can build a wooden box to hold your mold, then you can easily move-on to the next step and produce a mold for casting almost anything.

From tail lights to hood ornaments, jewelery to faux rocks, etc. Watch and become inspored.

Real world processes are thouroughly explained and enhanced visually with 3-D animations.

Shot in an analog format, but well edited with good production value.

This video was fairly well made, and it introduces you to the basics of creating molds for reproducing solid objects. The instructor gives many hints and tips that you may not find in other basic casting tutorials. Computer graphics are used to augment the instructor's verbal teachings, and everything he says gets repeated in "checklist" form after each lesson segment.

I liked the video. Very Helpful, but some of the "accompanying info" they refer to in the video was not available. Truly cool stuff. Glad I rented it. However, you can tell that the example used was crafted to seamlessly illustrate the technique. I suspect my own projects will be a little more "sticky". Still, If you are thinking of getting it, I'd say "Do it".

To be fair this video does give basic information on casting. But that's its, not a penny more. I got the feeling that a lot more could have been said, not that it was hard to understand but that the author would really like to milk this for a DVD series.

+ I thought the video was well presented, giving a good basic tutorial to molding & casting.

- There were a few audio dropouts (for extended periods).

- The video has an accompanying workbook. Materials and sources are covered in the book, not on the video.

Overall I was very satisfied.

The video takes your through a project from start to finish. That was pretty thorough. I wish he had done a couple of more projects as it's hard to learn from just one example.

Sound quality was pretty bad. A lot of shifting between left and right channels. This video was obviously taken from some sort of class. There were many references to a "work-book" but that wasn't really a big deal.

The video was basically useful and it was certainly not a waste of $10. I'm not sure I would do it again however.

Have owned it for years and was the first one I ever seen on mold making. It has been around and the promised second volume has never shown up as promised. It does cover the steps and will get you on your way. The booklet comes with The DVD set. It does have some more info but not that much. The video has the same faults as most other Technical DVD's they never look at the finished product. The sound is bad, the lighting in spots could have been better. Also they should at least write a script outline/talking points out and follow it.

Pros: - went from start to finish reproducing a simple object - neato graphics showing X-ray view of process - experienced and knowledgeable presenter - good sound and camera editing

Cons: - video was pretty short; double the time with advanced topics would have been better (glad I could rent it!) - didn't explain any alternatives to processes or materials; assumed a well-stocked workbench

Summary: short on breadth and depth, but good for total beginner

This video covers some good basic information and techniques for casting plastic and metal parts in RTV silicone molds. I'd recommend it for those starting out.

This "How-To" seemed to be paced just right. Well planned in advance of the presentation, it flowed along nicely and taught me a great deal. One of the best values so far. Thanks, Smartflix!

I enjoyed the DVD. It covered the very basics and let me ready to view the more advanced DVD. I would have liked a list or address where to buy the silicon to make molds. It answered some - but not all - of the questions I had.

Well produced video and easy to follow for the very basic shapes. I would sure like to see more.

This video is supposed to be for beginners. They keep referencing to information in the work book. I had no work book and the instructor went so fast I couldn't even take notes. Unless a work book is not included, I would not recommend this video to anybody, unless they had prior experience with mixing silicone's.

For me, it was a waste of money
