Forging a Clip Point Bowie

...with Gary Wheeler & Kim Breed

Knifemaking how-to video: Forging a Clip Point Bowie by Gary Wheeler & Kim Breed 3_bulb Review this video!

This video is about forging a drop clip bowie by hand. There is no special tools needed other than a hammer, anvil, forge, steel, and some patience.

The video includes. Planning, preperation, forging the point, clip, choil, and tang. We discuss edge geometry, distal tapers, and correcting curvature problems during forging.

The video is a step by step. Very little is taken out which is usually the repetition of that very step. In a nutshell......nothing is left out!!!

This video does not show forming the blade out of damascus. That will be another ball of wax.

This video was added to our catalog on August 19, 2005 in Knifemaking.

Off-the-cuff delivery makes for an entertaining presentation of the material.

I picked up several alternative techniques with regard to forming the bowie clip and dealing with blade curve during edge packing. Very Interesting!

This DVD is exactly like the title states - 'Forging a Clip Point Bowie'. If you want to see the rest of the knife making process, you have to look elsewhere. Many other selections take you through the entire process. I did pick up some tips and hints but I would have been disapointed if I bought this DVD.

I didn't get a lot out of this video. Very basic. It was a bit like a home video. Not long on explanation, then it just ends with a black screen (maybe that's where the Soprano's got the idea.) It would have been better if they had at least finished the blade.
