Thanks for the kind words on my Segmented bowl. I am not much of a photographer. I need to work on that. I really like the picture you took of your vessel. Very professional.

Very nice! Nice photography, too. From the highlights looks like you might have a softbox or something similar to the left, and a reflector to the right. How do you get the smooth tonal gradient on the background of your image?

Thanks for the kind words, folks. I'm certainly no pro at photography but I'm having fun learning. This was shot in a photo tent with two light sources and a graduated backdrop curved up the back.

Neal,

I actually made a light tent over the weekend - it's about 2 feet on a side, made out of 1" PVC pipes and fittings, and has two halogen bulbs in cheap reflectors from Lowes. In my test shots I've used an old tablecloth that happened to be sitting in the shop's rag box, but I want to use something better (and without a hole in it!). What did you use for a backdrop? Also, do you filter your lights at all?

Oh, and also the turned item is amazing!

Thanks Travis. The background is #39 from here: http://www.phototechinc.com/graduate.htm

The smaller one fit my 30" tent after a bit of trimming. They're expensive but worth it IMO.

Like you I also use lights in cheap reflectors from Lowes. In my case the lights are 5100K compact fluorescents. They make it relatively easy to set white balance on my camera.
