I've started turning birdhouse ornaments based on Dick Sing's book

You can see the mandrel I made, using a Be-all spindle tap.
Very nicely done. I was curious whether these bird houses are just for ornamental purposes or if they could be used for actual bird houses. I also have a BeAll spindle tap (1x8) so I can estimate its relative size. It seems kinda small (perhaps for a sparrow or humming bird?) though I realize this one is a Christmas ornament.
I suppose I could check out Dick Sing's book to see whether his examples are strictly ornamental or whether he has some that could be used for actual bird homes or perhaps scaled up to such.
Anyway, a very nice effort.

No, it's just an ornament, for a Christmas tree...although I have been thinking about scaling up the project and making REAL birdhouses this way!
Absolutely gorgeous. Wonderful job. I would be anxious to see a life size one....beautiful
