There's good stuff in here! It opened my eyes to optional uses of things I already own. It also chased me out to get three feet of 10-32 threaded rod I can cut to the lengths I need.
$10 well spent.
Pretty basic, but that's exactly what I need. It is so often the way the presenter goes about a task that is so revealing. No book can compare to watching this presenter.
Loaded with good stuff, as much unplanned as planned. What is "medium-speed feed?" Only watching it actually being perforned will give you the feel all machinists have to develop.
Wow, was this helpful! Small details I had forgotten (I took my mechanical drawing class in 1966) were included. And watching Rudy move tools around, match them, manipulate tool and workpiece, combine measuring devices -- that really gave me great insights into the job ahead of me. I was all fired up and wanted to jump immediately into producing something, but will settle for starting the right way: with a drawing of my own
I'm a user of Sherline, so very little of this was applicable to me. However, the presentation was clear and precise, and I still found a number of helpful hints, and saw things that a book never would have communicated as well.
Most of this was no help, with my Sherline. But certain parts of the discussion of tramming were of value.
This was a bit light, and basic, but as always from this machinist, clear, concise, well-explained, and with a splash of humor from time to time to lighten the load. Enjoyable as well as informative.
This introduced me to the real nuts and bolts of graver turning, and it prompted me to make my own handles, find and customize my own tools, and shortly I will get a t-rest and more tools from other machinists and really get to work on this. The DVD almost had me spend $200 I couldn't afford right now on a t-rest to fit my Sherline lathe. It's dangerous!
