If you've never worked on a Lathe, which I had NOT, this video is fantastic. All the basics are covered step by step. I never felt lost. I'm not sure what an experienced lathe worker would think about this video but for a beginner its the best I've seen.
I love the way Ron teaches. I've watched (and now own) every one of his DVD's. However, this video was a little disappointing to me. Ron starts off extremely thorough as always explaining tools & jigs and then moves onto notching and bending tubing with very detailed description and demonstration. Up to this point the video is absolutely excellent but then I felt like I hit the FF button on my DVD. When it time to get into the intricate detail of putting everything he just taught you together and building the actual frame he goes into very little detail. This is very unlike him. I wanted more. Over all the video is definitely worth watching but where is part 2 ?
Excellent video on working with tubing. Ron demonstrates many different ways to bend tubing from simple hand bending to using a hydraulic bender. This video is very basic so don't expect any intricate projects. Almost all projects are done on a single piece of tubing. If you've never worked with tubing this would be great way to start.
Steve is not much of an actor but the information in this video is excellent. When I took a welding class at the JC they used this video to teach us set up and cutting.
This is an excellent video on Oxy-Acetylene Welding. You can see the weld pool perfectly as Steve demonstrates what to do with it.
When learning to weld you have to be able to see the weld pool to understand how to weld properly. The video in this video is excellent. Steve walks you through the arc welding process on step at a time with clear and easy to follow demonstrations. The only negative I can say is that Steve is a welder NOT an actor. I highly recommend this video.
This video is terrible. Donavan does know his stuff but missing the mark when it comes to conveying that information through this video. I felt like the video never goes anywhere. Unfortunately though there are very few videos on the TIG welding process but even so I would skip this one.
I was a little disappointed because I rented this video to pick up some tips on dry wall taping with the various tools available today.
The techniques Myron shows for hanging drywall are excellent and if that is what you're after then rent this video. Myron definitely knows many, many ways to make the job of hanging drywall faster and easier.
However, unless you are absolutely new to drywall taping I felt this video is a little weak. He covers only very basic taping techniques and doesn't address any of the problems a new comer would run into. For experienced drywallers no advanced techniques are covered. In addition I would have liked to see some demonstration of the use of a Banjo or Bazooka.
Texturing is not covered either but the video never claims it is.
If you are new to drywalling, rent this video however for anyone that's worked with drywall before I think you may be disappointed.
Kevin Tetz is a nut. His light hearted demonstrations put you at ease. I really enjoyed this video. It's not major dent or body repair but rather an overview to the world of paint and body work. It's clear and easy to follow and presented in a way that makes you feel comfortable enough to give it a try yourself.
Before I watched this video I never knew the different finishes on cars required different finishing techniques. Nor would I have had the courage to actually sand a brand new paint job. Since watching this video I've actually used Kevin's techniques and they work! This guy is great and I highly recommend this and all his videos
When it comes to painting a car everyone has some complex procedure or formula. In this Video Kevin gives you enough basic principles clear enough that I truly believe I could paint my own car with a reasonable amount of confidence. If the process of painting a car is foreign to you I highly recommend this video
Wow. I can't say enough about this DVD set. Based on the Bridgeport Vertical Mill this DVD address everything from set up to measuring devices. It's well organized, clear and thorough. I wish I could afford to buy these DVD's because they are totally worth it!
Metal working has become my hobby so maybe I'm a little biased. I think this video is great. Like all Ron Covell videos it's clear and well presented and you won't need all sorts of expensive tools to apply the techniques taught. Ron Covell splits time on this video with Ron Fournier who is also an excellent metal working resource. If you're interested in getting started in metal shaping this would be a great video to watch.
I didn't even know what chopping and sectioning was when I rented this video. I just rented it because Ron Covell was involved. Rons videos are great so I figured what the heck. Ron spends most of his time behind the camera on this one but you can see his finger prints all over it with it's step by step organized approach. Joe, who presents most of the video does and excellent job stepping you through the process of chopping and sectioning a classic pickup. He covers many of the issues you may run into if you should undertake such a task. Though you'd have to be quite a craftsman to attempt such a task it's still fascinating to watch Joe complete this project step by step.
This video is short and to the point. The demonstration is clear and easy to follow. He goes over laying a foundation then installing a liner on top of it. He covers the three types of liner materials and several gotcha's to watch out for when installing them. Definitely worth watching if you plan to try a projects like this on.
This video has the look and feel of being home made but that's where it's short comings stop. It's well organized and is filled with lots of information on coppersmithing and a great demonstration of flame painting. Definitely worth a watch.
What can I say it's a Ron Covell Video! Seriously though this video is a great introduction to metal repair. It covers every thing from plugging holes to shaping a new curved front end that then gets TIG welded in place. Ron then goes on to show you to smooth the metal to paint ready condition using only hand tools. If you're new to metal repair and refinishing this is a great video. Though being a newbie to metal working myself I'm not sure how much value it would provide for someone familiar with metal working
I think this is the best video in George Goehl's series. It moves along at a pretty good pace while still showing you each and every step need to complete this project. The one thing not shown in this video is torch set up and tip selection. The thing I like best about George's videos is that he makes great looking sculptures using of very simple techniques and easy to obtain tools and supplies.

Maybe it's that I'm not very interested in butterflies or felt most people interested in this hobby could figure out 90% of this stuff without watching this video. And why does George take the time to go over every tool he uses and then blow right past torch selection and set up? Isn't that the most essential tool to this hobby? Maybe it's in his first video. It's the only one I haven't watched but why would I have to buy / rent that video if all I was interested in was creating butterflies?
Well, if you're interested in making magic wands, which I found out I'm not, this is a great video for you. It goes over everything you need to know, except torch selection and set up, to create magic wands with very simple supplies and tools. Each step is shown in detail and explained very clearly. I rated this video based on it's content not my interest in it. I would have given it a top rating if George had provided a little primer on torch selection and set up.
Great video. Larry shows you simple techniques with basic tools to get the job done. Framing walls in just one of the three videos in this series. I watch a bunch of how to videos and I think this series is the best I've ever seen on framing.
