This has to be one of the poorest presented videos that I have ever seen. The speaker reminds me of the lawyer that got fired on "My Cousin Vinny." The information about tool geometry is extremely weak - you are much better off getting the "Beginning Engraving with Lynton McKenzie."
This is an excellent introductory video. Rudy covers all the basic information needed to setup and begin milling. He covers areas that are important and typically seem to get left out of most fundamental documentation.
All three of Lynton McKenzie's videos are terrific! Get an opportunity to learn how this master does it himself. In his beginning video he covers tool sharpening - an extremely important area that has received very little treatment from other sources. The audio is a little weak in places and the sources for materials such as his vise appear to no longer exist, but this in no way detracts from his presentation or the materials covered. I highly recommend these videos.
This is an excellent well thought out and presented course. It offers multiple camera shots and is very professionally done. It is what one would expect from a vocational school and covers aspects of lathe operation in detail. I would highly recommend this video.
This video is an excellent video if you are interested in learning the function of the S&W revolver and basic maintenance with minor gunsmithing information. It does cover tuning and timing very well. It spends a little too much time with cleaning the gun and is seriously lacking in some gunsmith areas such as removing end-shake which was just very lightly touched on. There were no discussions on crane alignment, barrel replacement, or anything about cutting forcing cones, etc.
I thought that this was an excellent video. Darrel Holland has always been a good instructor. The information provided here is aimed at the gunsmith with use of a metal lathe and is consistent with that required to make accurate rifles. I would highly recommend this video if you are deeply involved in rifle smithing.
This is a very good video that explains in detail the steps needed to accurately install barrels and chamber them in a variety of actions and to crown those actions. It makes extensive use of lathe operations with some mill work, and also shows some of the unique tools, fixtures, and techniques that Richard uses. Richard is obviously and excellent machinist and produces some excellent rifles, however, some of his work practices are not the safest so I wouldn't necessarily recommend them. My shop teacher would roll over in his grave if he were watching him work. All in all, I would recommend this video to anyone that is wanting to accurately barrel rifle actions. The only real complaint that I have is their are places where the video seems to drag on - he spends over 5 minutes showing how he sands/finishes the outside of his barrels. That should give you some indication as to the detail that he goes into to explain what he's doing.
I thought that this was an excellent video. Darrel Holland always seem to do an excellent job in explaining what he's doing. You should keep in mind that this video is aimed at the gunsmith with a metal lathe. There is also some work demonstrated on the milling machine to inlet the stocks. It shows some unique methods of accurately bedding actions (Remington 700 series with some non-visual references to the winchester model 70) and definitely shows the professional touches that make for an excellent rifle. I thought that it was a nice touch at the end of the video that he actually shows what the gun he built will do at the range. That said, I would highly recommend this video.
