It ain't rocket science, but if you don't know what to do, you can mess up a guitar. Dan is a master and watching him is like having a private lesson. Replacing the factory nut with a progressively spaced bone nut is the most effective modification you can do. With a few simple tools anyone can make their guitar play better. Great video.

With over 3 hours of instruction and examples, this is an invaluable DVD. I rated it 5 stars but would give it more if I could. His sense of humor is corny, but his knowledge is first class. Even after reading several books on guitar making, this DVD taught me dozens of new ideas. Don't hesitate - rent this DVD. Some people complain because it is a compilation of still shots with dialog. But after seeing the DVD, I think it works great because you have time to study each image as he explains what is happening. I wish I had rented it sooner.

This DVD explains several different finishes and should be considered part of your finishing information knowledge base. The Stew Mac book is a must (if you can get pst them trying to sell you their products). I would suggest other DVD's and user forums like the kit guitar builder site. Robert also has a pore filling demo on the Luthiers Mercantile site utilizing drywall paste. This is a must have video, but make sure to look at others. Finishing (unlike building)is very personal and discovering your own preference and technique is probably the most difficult aspect. This DVD shows examples of several different finishes and viewing all (even if you plan on doing a different finish) is very informative. Don't buy any filler, stain or top coat without viewing this DVD first.
