A lot of useful info. He did some things I would have never considered doing with Yupo. He makes it look so easy. Would recommend this video to anyone who wants to free up their painting style.
Very wordy, if that's a word, but you get the picture. He spends an inordinate amount of time drawing shapes that have to be unrecognizable and then transferred to a full sheet of watercolor paper. Afterwards he almost entirely ignores the shapes. If you are into geometric shapes in your paintings then this is an ideal approach for you. However he did show me several techniques that i can use in my own paintings. I doubt that I will ever paint the way he demonstrates in this dvd but I do like the examples of his industrial paintings. He is a skilled artist. If you have the patience to sit through the entire video I am sure you will come away with something you can use for your own artwork.
WOW, what a great dvd! Very well produced. The instructions were clear and simple at the beginning and then progressed to more complicated patterns. This technique will very definately help me with my painting. I tried some of her examples, that she made look so simple, but turned out harder than I would have thought. You have to think in the negative and look for negative opportunities in your own work. I did find that I had to have several pictures going at the same time. I grew impatient waiting for the paint to dry and using a hair dryer seemed to change the color intensity. It was a great challenge and had me painting more than I normally paint. I would recommend this to anyone.
this is my first experience with charles reid. my first impression is that he is really a sloppy painter. at first i wondered why the floor was covered with material and then when i saw him constantly flick his paint filled brush on the floor i understood. still can't understand why when he was painting indoors he was sitting on a camp stool with a portable easel and plain aire paint bucket. i learned a lot by mimicking his contour drawing technique and have adopted it with great results. now for the way he paints i have not been successful in mimicking that, as yet. but it would certainly free me up. when they showed the finished painting it didn't look like the same painting he did as a demonstration but you still get the idea. i would definately recommend this dvd to anyone looking to free up their paintings. i have just sent off for his book watercolor solutions
Great video. I rented it out of curiosity. They make it look so simple on TV. Now the truth is you have to find locks to pick. If you try your house locks and you mess them up you have the expense of a locksmith to fix your mistakes. I plan to buy some cheap locks and see what i can do. Don't expect to use this skill but it seems like a fun hobby. The video makes it look so easy. If only that were so. Just like the other videos i rent. If you have the experience it looks easy. But for the price i say go for it. You never know when you will be locked out of your own house. Of course if you are stupid enough not to have a hidden key outside you deserved to be locked out.
This video is very basic. Maybe if you have never tried to paint with watercolor you might enjoy it as an introduction to this media, otherwise it is a waste of time and money.
