The thing that i hated the most was the first 5 min were copyright warnings. Then he immediately starts the LOUD mood music. It's the same 5 Enya songs, over and over in random order. I hope he didn't violate Her copyright. Skip the first chapter. It's some pretty boring theory, and seemed to pretty useless. He does get to doing something in the second chapter. With clips stolen from a tv channel as reference Once again, this wouldn't offend me if it weren't for all his warning at the beginning. Maybe the copyrights were supposed to be a joke. He then starts a head from scratch. He gives several tips on how to get started and a few on his technique. About half way through sculpting the head of Mel Gibson you can hear him utter, "that doesn't look very good" Then he starts covering up all the work he did with new clay over the top. I guess this video is supposed to teach us patients.
Misses: Ultra low production value, with many cuts, and blank screens. Often we are left staring at the model for a min with nothing happening. I got a queasy feeling after watching the camera trying to focus for several minutes on one of the heads(Most video cameras have a manual focus if you bother to find out how to use it). LOUD mood music. Bad camera angles. Few tips, just a do it and feel it. The author worrying about his copyrights, while stepping on everyone else's. Next time, just turn on an easy listening radio station very quietly.
Pluses: One of the few videos that cover this subject. Author is a true artist. The few tips that are given are great tips.
Overall: I'm still glad i rented it, as the few tips the video gave were excellent. If i had purchased it, I'm pretty sure i would have been pretty disappointed. Although not on likenesses "Sculpting a Polymer figures for Beginners, with Patricia Rose" is a lot better choice.
Awesome! DJ Shortee has mad skills and is here to help you! Most DJ's seem to be sworn to secrecy like some magicians, but not Shortee. The production value of her videos are great. Multiple angles, and repetition of the moves are there to help you. Lots of tips are given and the whole video goes along at an interesting pace. There are also little mini interviews of other DJ's between the lessons, that give their personal backgrounds.
Misses: The first DVD didn't reference the albums used. She is easily reachable on the web though and will get back within a few days if you need this info, or any other help.
Hits: Shortee is fun to watch, and a true master of this art. The video moves along at a great pace and you are never left sitting around board. Her tips and lessons are all great. Great production value.
Overall: This is a must rent(or buy). One of the best videos out there if you are wanting to learn to scratch records. Entertaining, and educational. No secrecy, just how to do it. I learned a lot from this video!
Excellent video. Clear shots, great tips. A must rent.
Misses: It's hard to find any. I guess if i really wanted to nitpick, she sniffles a lot due to an allergy to a neighbors blooming tree (she explains it on the video and apologizes.) She keeps referring to her audience as girls. My wife kept making fun of me for this. Guys can do this too though!
Pluses: Clear video. Lots of great tips. Clear instructions. The author is a true artist and really knows her stuff.
Overall: If you want to make realistic looking dolls, action figures, or mermaids, this is the video you need!
