Lots of good information in this video. It tended to club you in the head repeatedly with what would seem to me to be simple, obvious things at times, though. Chances are, someone who knows enough to _want_ to anodize aluminum can do the very basic math required without all the repetition. If you're having trouble sleeping, watch it at bedtime.

Video: Framing Walls

These guys really know their stuff. I'm going to be building a garage starting this week, so it's information that will come in handy. They use scale models to emphasize certain aspects of the work, and it's presented with humor and at a lively pace. Recommended.

Like the others who reviewed this, I would have liked some closeups. I also find that videos produced by having a person go through all the steps in front of the camera and then doing a voice-over to explain what's going on are better than those which, like this one, try to have one guy running the machine and talking at the same time. It makes for a somewhat disconcerting lack of regular pace in the speech.

This gentleman is obviously enthusiastic about his work. He presented all the basics of brazing, along with some useful "tricks," at a good pace and with a good sense of humor. He's very up-front about mistakes he's made, and is very candid in the segment about selling your work on commission which was included at the end of the video. As others have mentioned, this video is about making art pieces, not building bridges, and some better closeups would have been helpful, but I still found the video to be very informative and entertaining.

An excellent, excellent video. I've rented quite a few educational DVDs from SmartFlix and this has to be one of the best I've seen. Some of them have good information, but lousy lighting/sound/narration/pacing. You just want to yell at the screen; "I can't see a damn thing!" or "Okay - OKAY - we KNOW that's how it works because you've SHOWN IT TO US A DOZEN DAMN TIMES in the last 10 minutes!!!" With Randy's video, I never once felt any of that. He kept my total attention, and whenever it seemed like he was belaboring a point, he would then show you _why_ he was emphasizing it. He has a good sense of humor, an unhurried and very methodical working style, and appears to be a master at the art of blacksmithing. I was on the fence about getting into this hobby until I watched this DVD. Now I'm shopping for tongs and an anvil. :-) HIGHLY recommended (and I'm not easy to impress!)

S...L...O...W... paced. After the first 30 minutes, the friend who watched it with me and I were both struggling to keep our eyes open. I'm sure there's good information there, but we didn't even make it all the way through. Closeups are nice, but for gosh sakes - show your face once in a while! It's like he's "Wilson" from "Home Improvement", except you don't even see the top of his face - just his hands! And if you can't figure out how to do the very _basic_ math he beats like a dead horse, you probably shouldn't be working with machine tools in the first place. Not recommended - unless you're short on sleep.
