If you are at all considering buying one of these, it's a great intro. I only rented the first one, but probably it's a good idea to do both at the same time and save the few extra bucks. Perfect for someone just starting out - nice closeups of the work. Not a slick, professionally shot production - which is all the more reason to enjoy it.
Another great introduction and virtual hands-on with the older style 7x10 (though it's just as good for those buying newer models like the Micromark 7x14, etc.) So far, all of Jose's videos I've rented have been well worth it!
If you're renting one, you should rent both at the same time and save yourself the trouble. The first DVD seems a bit out of order as there is no introduction or anything, just starts with him making spinning tools, but the whole spinning process is fun to watch. He makes every part of it look extremely easy, which might be a little misleading, but that's what happens when you're watching a master.
Liked the 2nd DVD even more - watching the projects really makes you want to start spinning yourself.
So many great ideas here for making advanced tooling. Good to watch just to see the possibilities of a little Taig machine. (Milling, threading, indexing, etc.) Some seem like a lot of work and you may not want to attempt, but does get you thinking about ideas of your own.
To be honest, I couldn't watch the whole thing - after about 15 minutes of instructions on how to OPEN a pack of cards (unwrapping the cellophane, making sure to cut the sticker holding the box closed, removing Jokers, etc.), I gave up. There might be something of value in these DVDs, but I didn't have the patience to sit through it. Normally I watch every minute of the DVDs I rent from Smartflix, but this was so overly produced and presented as though the viewer were not only a moron, but had never seen a deck of cards before that I didn't want to waste my time.
