The video is great. I learned allot about how to mill out a 0% forging. Overall this was a very educational experience. However, if you do not have a milling machine, a vise, an angle plate and several big end mills and a large tap this video will not serve your very well, a hack saw, a drill press and a file will not do the job. I am not sure if I will try milling out a 0% forging but I now know that it is possible after watching the video. So for a beginner you can spend $100 on a finished lower or invest >$5000 and build one.
The information in the video and the 30 some page addendum is incredible! If you ever wanted to know how to drill and cut a barrel this is the video set for you. The video has a disclaimer that this machine is for home use only and not for commercial use, I agree with that, however no one says you cannot scale up the machine, i.e put a more powerful motor on it, make it more ridgid and use higher feed rates. So this is the good news. The bad news is that to make this machine you need a lathe and a milling machine and lots of time! However if you are serious about your guns this should not stop you. The other thing is that technically the video is not the best quality. In some places the video is out-of-focus and the overall quality is just above home video quality. However, the info presented offsets the technical merits of production. If in doubt rent the video, you will not regret it!!!
If you ever wondered how to build a "match" grade rifle from a Remington 700 receiver, this video should answer some of these question. The main focus of this video is the receiver. Or more exactly, how to prep it, i.e blue print the action. The video starts discussing barreling but it only start that topic. Part 2 deals more with that subject. I enjoyed the DVD and I think anyone would as well who likes to learn about gunsmithing.
