If you have no experience in the shop with hand planes this video is for you. However if you do have some hands on experience or have read basic articles about hand planes this video is just too basic to be useful.

Bill combines an entertaining sense of humor with effective instructions on bowl turning for the beginner in this video. i have viewed several videos on this subject and bill's is first rate.

1)this dvd would not play in my sony player..first dvd i've ever had that would not play in this device. so i played it on my computer.

2)really poor camera work. if a turning dvd is going to be instructional you have to see what the tool tip is doing. i've looked at many and money spent on professional camera man is well spent, but not here.

3) dubbing the voice to the video after the shooting allows the background noises to be muffled and the voice to be clear. not done on this video although i would not reject it because of this problem. richard raffan's videos, for instance, seem to use this technique.

4) good tip on using velcro to hold sandpaper to a glove for interiors of hollow forms. i will use this tip.

5)his finished bowls and HF's are stunning. adding turquoise to the voids is brilliant. i just wish he had hired a pro to produce the video.

I had to watch this video a number of times and take some notes to retain the steps. It's one i would like to buy for further reference. professional job of filming and adding voice later so the author's comments can be heard. His work is very attractive to me and i would like to copy some of techniques. Highly rated.

This is a professionally made-how to video that requires several viewings to pick up all the info. as a matter of fact, i took notes the second time because the sequence of steps is important. if you like lidded boxes this is a good primer.
