Excellent video. There is a lot of good information, especially on setting colored stones.
Good information. Kind of short, but I guess thats better than adding a bunch of unnecessary filler.
A very good DVD, but also really fast paced, so keep your finger on the pause button. I wish there had been some thing about fixing mistakes.
The video is just a video taped seminar at an engraving conference. Very boring. The seminar is for gun/knife engravers, basically they just say you can make money doing jewelery engraving.
I rented this for the case hardening part. I was a little disappointed because all that is covered is using Casenit compound which is a powder you dip the part in while it is hot. As I understand it, Casenit doesn't harden the part as deep as packing the part in a carbonizing compound and heating it in an oven for several hours. Since all that is covered is using Casenit, of course color case hardening isn't covered. It is only mentioned as something that is beyond most gunsmiths. Still, while only Casenit was covered, I think the instructor did a good job explaining how to use it is various situations.
The heat treating part was good, but it was very basic. If you have never heat treated something before this would be useful.
I learned some things, but I am glad I only rented it.
Channel Setting Diamonds- This video was pretty good introduction to channel setting, but there aren't really any tips or tricks that would make this video worth while to someone who already knows the basics.
I have been anodizing on a regular basis for about 4 years. I learned some new things from this DVD, but I thought some aspects of getting a good finish on the part and setting up were not covered adequately.
This review is for the fish scale DVD. This DVD is suppose to be about carving fish scale, but he didn't getdvd into that till 30 minutes into the 50 minute DVD. The first half hour was spent talking about and carving something else. Some close ups while he was carving would have helped a lot. I should also add that this DVD is entirely about using a high speed rotary tool, there is no talk of using chisels.
