If you work on your own cars, this video is just what you need to complete a successful engine rebuild. It takes you thru pulling an engine (with or without transmission), disassembly, what parts to replace, taking parts to a machine shop, assembly, and starting the engine up for the first time. The dvd contains lots of useful tips along the way like using the correct lubes and adhesives, familiarization with special tools and acceptable alternatives, and work arounds for problems that might arise during a rebuild. The dvd was very well thought out and produced, too. After watching this, I would feel much more comfortable rebuilding my own engine rather than picking up an engine exchange from some place and not knowing exactly what went into the rebuild. Highly recommended.

This dvd takes you step by step thru rebuilding a 4L60E. It seems very thorough but it's a bit like paint by numbers in it's execution. I realize that one dvd can't explain both the details of a very specific transmission rebuild plus the theory of automatic transmission operation but I do wish that some effort would have went into explaining how a basic automatic transmission ticks. It's difficult to follow through something this technical when the viewer doesn't have a good grasp on basic automatic transmission operation and what role the parts inside an automatic transmission play in making everything work. I would suggest to anyone interested in watching this dvd to first find some information on how automatic transmissions work. This video will show you how to disassemble, inspect parts, replace parts, troubleshoot common failures, and reassemble a 4L60E. If you already know how automatic transmissions work, this could be just what you need. If you've ever tore down a big complicated carburetor and couldn't get the thing to work right when you were done, you might want to skip this until you have a better understanding of the basics. I only watched this dvd once but I did find myself feeling a bit bogged down with all the alien parts inside the transmission and not knowing their functions. The dvd is well made and seems thorough but personally I would not attempt a rebuild on my 4L60E after watching it. I'm leaving 4 stars and you can take that how you want to.
