Well, having seen all 3 of the other dvd's, this one has high and low spots.

Low, its not very long. Does not cover chisel technique, just sharpening.

High, it does fill in some of the gaps from the other plane videos.

In Mr. Charlesworth's usual fashion, he is very precise and articulates his approach clearly.

Well worth a rental, but not what I was expecting given the other series.

He is sharpening to a micro-bevel, which may or may not be your preference.

Top of my list of MUST SEE DVDs.

A really top flight instruction on the basics of Drill Bits, Drill Presses, Drilling and Tapping.

Also addresses holding work down, reaming and safety.

He knows his stuff and explains it so perfectly, you come away knowing more! He also does not state "opinions". He sticks to facts.

Rent it today, you won't be sorry.

A few comments, the production and clarity is excellent.

A complete covering of the topics in both valve and tire changing.

Well worth a rent if you are new to these topics.

I also don't have a KLR650, but found the video to be very informative.

The video does not expand beyond these topics, so its fairly narrow of scope. Which I prefer in a video.

A bit of a disappointment.

This video is very basic.

I was annoyed that they list valve maintenance. All they do is tell you its complicated and take it to a mechanic.

Having rented and own other videos, I think the topic is better covered elsewhere.

It is fine if you are brand new to the motorcycle maintenance, but if you have a basic understanding of the topic, I'd look elsewhere.

Oh the fun!

Its a fantastic blend of riding shots with field maintenance.

If you are well versed in the basics of maintenance, this won't really be anything new.

The shots of Iceland though, make this a very fun video.

Good, great, fantastic!

This is a 3 disc set that fills ones head with tons of good stuff.

Well ordered and methodical.

For woodworkers or folks who like heat treating tools, disc 2 is well worth a rent.

Goodness, where to start.

Thorough. Amazing. Clear.

From opening the hood to finally turning the key, this video does it all.

Almost bolt for bolt.

I also really enjoyed the trip to the machine shop where they did all kinds of grinding and fitting on the block.

This is, IMHO, how a how-to video should be. Broken into tons of chapters and navigates like a webpage.

Even if you don't wanna rebuild an engine, it teaches so much that its a great learning experience for any how-to'r.

Very informative. Lots of good examples.

I found the artists eye view camera shots to be great. Finally showing what we'd see while doing it.

Its a bit light on technical details, and not really an overall covering of the topic of brazing. I'd say it would be a good follow up to a good intro video on the topic.

Lots of examples and tips on small project work.

Found this video very interesting. I didn't know it was about sheet metal, my bad.

It gave me a good idea bout how sheet metal can be worked and formed.

I did feel it was not as much a "why you do this" video, more of a "do this, do that".

Got a lot out of treating small parts, mainly the case hardening. For me, this video filled in a lot of small tips/details glossed over in other covering of the subject.

He got into a lot about the "why", not just the "how".

The second part is very informative. You get to see more metal treating work.

A bit hard to follow, mainly how to test what kind of steel you have. I stuck with it and took notes, it ends up being very helpful.

Wonderful! Covers general tools and tire changing. Not overly BMW specific.

I have rented both this and the F650 video, I would not bother renting both.

What a mixed review I feel I need to give.

80% of this video is material covered by other more detailed videos.

The 20% that is box specific is very very good. I really was taken by the design and look of the completed boxes.

If you have seen "how to make a finger joint jig" and "make a cross cut sled", this will be nothing new.

On the other hand, leather hinges and wooden hinges were quite interesting.

I do fault Taunton press for cranking out rehashes of much the same material.

Ah, now I understand. This is part of a 2 disc set on chisels.

This is another fine, exhaustively detailed treatise on the subject by David Charlesworth. Tons of great info.

If you are looking for new takes on how to use chisels or like to work at almost a Machinest's level of precision, this won't disappoint.

If you view chisels as something you wack with a hammer to expedite your way to getting the job done, probably not as much up your alley.

Worth its weight in gold.

You see what the weld beads look like from the weldors point of view. The voice over during the welding helps to make sense of the process.

Also, a fine job of showing things that aren't correct and results.

If you want to see what arc welding is about, a fine choice.

It is not a video on "How to weld your project", its all about the welding technique.

Get disc 2, its just more of the same, only greater!

As a follow up to my glowing praise of disc 1.....

Fantastic!

If you are already familiar with the basics of arc welding (the buzz box and rods), skip disc 1 and go right to disc 2.

This is almost all welding bead examples. Miter welding, overhead, butt and lap joints and more.

I watched disc 1 and 2, got a feel for the sights and sounds of proper technique.

For anyone who wants to get a good intro into a mini-mill, this is for you.

The clamping/fixtures part is also very good.

I don't think its for folks who already know mills, this is a first time video.

For those of us who are new to the concepts, this was a very well presented. The explanations were clear.

For me, a video that has both HOW and WHY are key, this was one of those.

Its a great video, content is solid. If you are new to riding or want to double check your basics, its great. Pretty nice overview of your first riding steps in a typical MSF course.

Its a short duration video, no extras.

Hmmmm, this is a tough DVD to recommend.

First, it is a voice over slide show, not a live action video.

Second, it does not really show you in detail solutions to many issues.

It is a fine presentation of how the author created jigs specifically for a very interesting table.

I just can't recommend this, as the jig info is not enough (in my opinion) to justify the cost.

Few videos come to mind as definitive and must have. This is one of them.

Tom Law covers the topic in such great detail you come away knowing the how's and why's.

Rip, crosscut and dovetail saws are covered. Hand files are used for the majority of the work. Some machines are demonstrated.

I found this ideal, as the hand files show you how to do the job. The machines become a faster way.

I own a copy of this DVD and its the most watched dvd I own.

Rent it, you won't regret it!

Great for showing riding from the riders angle.

The tips are mostly track oriented.

I found it was best as a supplement to actual riding, not for just watching to learn. Many of the techniques need to be practiced to be understood.

Can't go wrong, for any level of experience.

Rent this, the go riding!!!!

Full of amazing images and lots of good riding.

Not as much a specific travelouge, more highlights of their trip.

Some good tips and ideas for touring as well.

Video: Carburetors

Grain of salt.

He takes apart and reassembles a lot of carbs in this set.

If you enjoy seeing and learning such things, a good rent.

It is specifically about the taking apart and reassembly, plus tips and tricks with areas to clean and look for trouble spots.

Very model specific.

It does not teach you anything about carburetors. No theory, not hot rodding stuff.

Highly recommended for what it is.

Just another top flight video on welding!

I watched this while learning Oxy-Acetylene in a class. Made a huge difference in my learning curve.

Well, quite a treat. I've been learning scraping on my own for a few months now.

This video really shows the process in great detail. I'd say 2/3 is hand, 1/3 power.

The animations really help visualize whats happening.

Also, he explains some of the why's in what you are doing.

Its clearly a tape transfer to DVD, but that's life in the big city.

The content is top notch.
