This is the second of his instructional DVDs that I have rented. I actually think that they are both really good, but basically I liked Design for Content better. And pretty much the same information is on both, this one just goes into a little more depth.
This was a good dvd. I enjoyed watching her create the painting and the way that she used salt to add texture. I guess I was looking for something out of the ordinary using the salt, but I was still not disappointed. Glenda
I took one of her classes and still wanted to see the DVD to refresh my memories on some of her techniques. Lots of ideas on this DVD and she uses inexpensive items for her art. Definitely worth watching. Helped me to "loosen up" a bit and not be so exact in my art.
As a mixed media artist, I wasn't completely happy with this video. Most, if not all artists know that if you prep a canvas or watercolor paper with gesso, you can lift off the paints later with a tissue or a brush, to leave a lighter, almost white area. It isn't a revolutionary concept. Basically, that is the main point in this DVD. Then he paints in trees, lifts out.
I really was looking forward to this video, but I honestly didn't learn anything. Don't like his style at all, it's downright messy and makes no sense. There are some awesome videos from SmartFlix but this isn't one of them.
This is the best video that I have rented and I have rented a lot. I learned so much and Pat Dewes is easy to understand and very thorough. I waited a long time to get it and it is just fabulous. I will probably buy myself a copy because I want to be able to refer back to it again and again.
I did learn some stitches and so enjoyed seeing her samples. But this video is amateurish at best. Hard to see, blurry in some places and just not well done at all. I found that to be extremely disconcerting. It was like the worst home video. But, if you really really want to learn free form and can get past that, get it.
