I misunderstood that this dvd was going to be about Howard actually in process of MAKING an L-6 Katana, and salt bath at 500 F. to get Bainite. It was pretty good, but I was more interested in actually seeing how Howard goes about making one, instead of a commercial for the Katana and plugs by Bugai and some swordsmen.

I forge knives myself, and it is interesting to see someone do it in the simplest manner possible, but it looked like he didn't have enough heat to do much work, and I am not convinced charcoal is at all ideal as a forge fuel. It was interesting and understandable.

He does a pretty good job explaining the process, but I am still a little confused on the machining for the coil spring, and I will call him and ask him when I am ready to build an automatic. The disturbing thing was hearing the camera man's breathing at some points, and some of the focus was fumbled, due to the camera man not knowing where to frame.

Not bad to see the stones and the action of the polishing.

Very rustic forging, not too bad, but with arms the size of this guy, I could move a lot more metal than he did, and to see his power hammer that was maybe a 25 - 50 lb (little giant?) run like it was a sick and tired 5 pounder was sad.
