Video: AR-15 CQC

This video is OK. When you're in the business of making videos about guns, rather than being a true master of the tools, then you get what you've got here. He's done some very good videos that are packed with useful knowledge to the neophyte, but this is not one of them. This video is not what I'd call CQB level information. With respect to the topic, it's amateur hour.

This video is quite thorough, from A-Z. It also contains the gunsmith's comments on tips and tricks that are worth the rental price alone. But like everything, nothing is truly perfect. Mostly the problems with this video is the camera techniques, not the instructor. The instructor's large hands obscure his methods very often. When parts are selected for assembly, mainly the small parts, closeup shots are not taken of the part, and then the instructor's hands obscures the assembly of the part--you only get a look after assembly.

Rent this video. But if you are new to AR-15s, or just want better camera shots, then get Bushmaster's assembly instruction video. I own it and the camera techniques used in it beats this one all around.

This is one of the best videos, for its purpose, I've seen made, in the firearms instruction category. Anybody that wants to teach their female friend, or family member about handguns should get this video. It's thorough, paced perfectly, and very clear at all levels of instruction. A++

Excellent instruction on what makes an accurate rifle. If you want this knowledge, then rent this video. But don't expect that you'll be breaking down your rifle in the garage to do the demonstrated work, unless you have a machine shop, machining experience, and lots of tools. This video is really for gunsmiths who have a shop setup to do this kind of work, just like the instructor.

However, even if you're just a rifle owner who wants to know what makes a rifle shoot accurately, the rental fee is worth the knowledge you'll gain. The video quality is not the best (digitized from VHS), but the camera work is good, and the instructor & information is top-notch.

The production is good, the instructor is excellent. Camera technique could stand some improvement with better lighting and closer, more focused shots, in places. It's obvious that Ferguson knows his stuff, and he does an excellent job with presentation and skills set. Being good at your work and a great teacher is a rare combination.

My only criticism, other than what's mentioned above, is that another half-hour of additional instruction would have made this a 5+ video. Due to the minor detractors, 4.5 stars.

Great job, Myron!
