This was an informative video. If you are interested in artist colors and mixing technique, you will not gain much specific information. But, if you are interested in a watercolorist's composition and quick approach to capturing the essence of the scene through the composition, while on location, then you'll appreciate this video. Sometimes, because of the dialect variation, an American may have to adjust to an Australian accent. Sometimes a word or two get lost, but that doesn't matter because the painter is always demonstrating. I watched this video three different times, each time gaining further insights into the painter's approach.

Birgid's DVD is quite good for demonstrating her approaches to watercolour washes, and their impact on creating an atmospheric painting. She demonstrates with two paintings.

This is one of the finest DVDs for watercolour painting. It's so good that I bought my own copy. Charles Reid is absolutely superb in presenting his approach to watercolour vignette painting.

I found Robert Wade's solutions to be quite good. He demonstrated what he was talking about, that makes a lot of difference. Obviously there are many points made which are well known to watercolorists, however, his thoughtful approach and demonstrations helped in letting one re-look at some approaches to painting. This is a very worthwhile DVD.

This was an OK DVD, offering a few insights and commentary. I would suppose it's good if you have not viewed some of the more polished watercolour DVDs. I did not care for the style of the painter....whose name, unfortunately, I can't recall.

The Painting Skies DVD was informative. Perhaps a little lengthy, but then that is essential for the material covered. This is a valuable one to borrow, and use for regular exercises.

Richard Schmid's landscape in November is outstanding. He's such a wealth of artistic insights, you cannot fail to learn from this piece. I am always astounded by his results, under some not so pleasant circumstances. This is a must for all oil painters!

The June Landscape Painting was really superb ! Richard demonstrated some excellent brushwork during the phase after the actual painting demo. This second phase was unbeatable. It's a must-see for anyone interested in his painting approach. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

This was my first encounter with Kevin Macpherson. Having heard so much about him as painter, I was expecting "the world" ! The DVD is good, no question about that. Yet, I have observed other painters whose approach to painting is not much different. I conclude, after viewing the DVD, that Kevin is not really that much better then so many other painters. I would suggest others to be open to so many others painter DVD's at SMARTFLIX. They are surely equal in instruction/practice to Kevin Macpherson.

This is a lengthy 2 disc session....sometimes tedious, othertimes OK. He does talk a good deal. Would it have been better to simply watch him paint ? Yet, a beginning plein air painter might benefit from his words. I'm sure a workshop with him would be better than watching a DVD made during a workshop. At least in a real workshop there might be opportunities for questions/answers along the way. The DVD displayed almost lifeless workshop participants. Yes, I realize that these DVD's require orchestrated time, orchestrated participation, the inclusion of specific artist insights, viewpoints, and beginning to end work of art. HOWEVER, this one was too long for what you finally viewed as the completed work.
