I learned a lot from the John Sanden set and would recommend these videos. His ability to capture his models is phenomenal, especially when you consider that he paints over his initial sketch of the features and recreates them perfectly with opaque oils. He gives detailed information on how he chooses and places his skin tones.
I thought this was an excellent dvd. Liliedahl makes it very clear. I especially liked the skin tones she mixes. There is a information sheet enclosed that gives even more detail about what colors she uses to mix her flesh tones and where on the face she uses these. It definitely made me a better portrait painter.
I enjoyed this video and learned a lot from it. I believe his ability to do beautiful & loose quick studies comes from years of experience. It would be very hard for a novice to do the same. Still, it was very helpful in that it can help you loosen up and work in a more painterly fashion.

I thought this video was excellent. I have been using charcoal to draw my models on canvas. Then I would have to spray it with a sealer, and then begin the oil painting. This video taught me to begin with painting. It also explains a lot about the proportions and how they change when the model is full on, profile, or three quarter view. Really learned a lot.
Loved this dvd. Her style is loose and painterly. She is a talented artist and teacher.

Once again, I learned a lot from another dvd by Liliedahl . I love everything she does. She teaches theory and technique in every dvd. Beginners and experienced painters can benefit from her.
