Before I rented this dvd, I've gotta admit I wasn't sure what to expect. I'd read all of the other reviews and thought, what the heck I'll give it a try. Needless, to say, I was not disappointed! This is one of the best airbrushing videos I have rented so far. I must have watched it about 10 times before I returned it-I found it that instructive. Cross-eyed is an airbrush master, and I found his narrative highly informative and his technique for rendering the wolf enlightening.
This was the first dvd I've rented from Kent Lent and thought it was great. A lot of good basic practice exercises for mastering the dagger stroke (both hard and soft)in addition, to some lettering techniques a beginning airbrush student can feel comfortable with. I highly recommend this video for someone wanting to get in to the T-shirt airbrushing field.I would have liked to seen more of the different types of scripts used on T-shirts, but that's available on another disc.
I really enjoyed this DVD by Blake(Cross-Eyed)McCully.It's the second one I've rented by him in a series of DVD's he has out.As he points out at the beginning of the video, this DVD is not so much about airbrushing (technique)in rendering a convincing skull as it is about using solid reference material of a skull, and with that reference material, properly understanding -then airbrushing from a stock skull into a modified "bad ass" skull based on good solid reference.Even though this guy earned a degree in graphic design from the Alberta College of Art & Design and was enrolled in the Masters of Illustration program at New York's School of Visual Arts, he's so down to earth and tells it like it is, with sense of humor to boot.
The title sounded great when it first appeared on the list of airbrush videos.Alas, itis by no means an Airbrushing Action video, fellow paint shooters.I found I was asking myself, throughout this video, is Kevin teaching us (the audience) the way he approaches and paints a subject or just showing what he can do.And that compressor of his suddenly kicking in and brutally shutting down should have been muffled while taping. Its bloody distracting. On a positive note,I did get one thing out of this dvd on a number of different occasions while watching it -- a good sleep. Next time I'll wait for a Lorenzo Sperlonga dvd when I want to learn about airbrushing a pinup.
After renting this video I went and bought a copy,I really enjoyed it that much.Lorenzo's easy going style and use of liquidtex heavy body acrylic paint using a kolinsky sable brush and an airbrush was inspiring. I just never thought you could spray that stuff through an airbrush effectively! A lot of great tips on this DVD.
