While I got some inspiration from the a altering techniques and forms shown in this video, it wasn't quite what I expected. The title implies that the video focuses on techniques for throwing tall and wide forms with thin walls, but it gave little advice in this regard. Perhaps it was a limit of the video, but the pieces didn't even appear very thin.

Overall, I felt the video was worth renting, but not as instructional as I had hoped.

Tony Clennell is a wonderful potter, but I was a bit disappointed with this video. I'm sure it would be good for a beginning potter, but I was hoping for some new ideas on decorative handles beyond the basic coiling and pulling methods. His handles are very big and "rustic" (as another reviewer put it), and they certainly fit his style of "machoware", but not the smaller functional pieces. He uses more clay in his mug handles than many of us would use for the whole mug.

This isn't a training or technique video, but it's beautiful to watch. The video is very well produced and is an inspiring look at the entire cycle of a wood-firing. The huge walk-in kiln is amazing!

This video is inspirational. Not really high on teaching technique (although I did learn some from it), but it shows the importance of form, and inspires the viewer to break out of the mold of cylindrical thrown pieces.

This is a must-see set. Robin Hopper is an excellent teacher. These DVDs are packed with valuable information ranging from the esthetics and techniques of various methods.

Video: Extrude It!

Rent these videos now! Even if you have no plans to buy or use an extruder, you'll find a wealth of information and tips for altering wheel thrown pieces and hand-building as well as the excellent tutorial on using an extruder to create beautiful pieces. The DVDs are very professionally produced and David is not only a great instructor, but very entertaining.

I'm not in any way associated with David, I just love his videos.
