Dennis Rogers, the 5'6" 160lb modern day strongman phenom, brings us this highly entertaining DVD featuring instruction in his pet feat: Driving nails through boards with your bare hands!
Rogers is no ordinary weightlifter, he is a very entertaining and unassuming guy, a real "everyman" who just happens to rip phone books in half, bend horseshoes with his hands, and holds back Harley Davidsons strapped to his arms. This might sound crazy to most, but what working class man hasn't stood in awe at impromptu feats of strength at the pub or worksite? A big bench press is non-news, but rip a deck of cards in two and you will really shock people! If you have ever wondered just how to do such uncommon feats, Rogers is the man to show you.
This DVD is literally the only instructional in existence detailing just how to drive a nail through a board with your hand as a hammer. This is not some mystical magical feat either, Rogers goes step by step showing you EXACTLY how to do it. Ths DVD does give short demonstrations of Rogers' other feats but does not detail them. For this reason I am giving it a 4 out of 5, though the production and entertainment value are very high.
If you are into old-time feats of strength as I am, or are just a little curious about the incredible potential of the human body, check this DVD out, you will not be disappointed!
Rogers and Povilaitis are real "everyman" guys, working class, blue collar, and with a love of homegrown strength. These are not the 6'8" 330lb "strongmen" you see on TV! If you have ever heard those half-legendary tales about someone who knows someone who rips decks of cards in half, bends horseshoes, tears phone books, etc, etc.. THESE are those men!
This video is not an instructional per se, but it does give a great introduction into strength feats. You will see all manner of bending, ripping, breaking, tearing, and lifting. Notably, Rogers holds back two Air Force trainer planes from takeoff by strapping them to his arms! Povilaitis bends steel spikes with his bare hands while a 300lb granite sphere rests in his lap. These are NOT big men, and there is no trickery involved in these feats. This is human potential at it's best and it is truly crazy stuff!
As I stated earlier, this is not an instructional it is a demonstration, and you really cannot see these types of feats anywhere else. For production quality and entertainment value alone I give this DVD 5 stars. If you are into strength feats performed by real people, you NEED to see this video.
Svend Karlsen, the former "World's Strongest Man" gives you a rare glimpse into his world of ungodly strength.
This video is like a "day in the life of", and really shows you what is involved in the life of a pro strongman. It mostly details the training regime that gave Svend his WSM title, but you do see glimpses of his home life and really get to see inside the mind of a champion. Svend is a very funny and highly entertaining guy just in himself, and it makes for a fun video.
This DVD gives you instruction in the strongman events, training shcedules, nutrition, and in the gym training footage. Now, this is NOT something that your normal everyday weight trainer would need or want, but seeing how the pros do it is highly informative and inspirational. This, coupled with a very high production value and Svend's overall craziness makes me give this DVD a 5 star rating.
The camera is zoomed in on the work the whole time so you really get a good picture of how to do the stitch. She gives easy to follow instructions throughout.
Amazing. Spider does a great job with clear instructions and great close ups. Her website is also very helpful when ordering the rings to make the chainmaille.
