Video: Pate de Verre

Although this is more of a documentary than an instructional video, it's very informative and well worth renting. Some of the process the Higuchis use is shown in enough detail that you can certainly play with it yourself. However, you'll have to experiment with a lot of the details like mold mixtures as well as firing and annealing schedules.

The information presented is a very good introduction to carving technique. You just have to overlook the goofy on-screen antics of Butch Young. The video assumes that you know something about sandblasting equipment and settings before you start. Although Butch does tell what pressure settings and grit size she's using, the information is scattered throughout the video and is merely mentioned as an aside, not as teaching points.

An excellent introduction to basic Venetian techniques by an excellent teacher. The necessary techniques are explained and demonstrated very well. Good detailed camera work allow you to see exactly what you need to do.

I enjoyed it thoroughly. The presentation is scripted and very well done - expressive, not droning. The techniques shared lend themselves particularly to Mr. McGrain's style of work, but there are enough specific examples and bits of advice that make much of the information transferable to other styles. I didn’t rent Lesson One because I’d already had experience with glass painting, and it was not a problem. However, if you don’t have any experience with glass paints, you’ll want to rent Lesson One to get the basics, like what kind of paints to use; how to mix the paints, etc. All told, I think Mr. McGrain is a good teacher and presenter and I’d recommend his videos.

I also rented Lesson Two in Mr. McGrain’s Traditional Glass Painting series at the same time. I think I’d agree with the previous reviewer that to get the most out of this video you should probably watch at least Lesson Two, first. If you’ve never done glass painting, you’ll want to rent Lesson One to get the basics, like what kind of paints to use; how to mix the paints, etc. I enjoyed this video and would recommend it to fusers looking for ways to add uniqueness to their work.

I got this video just because I wanted to know how it's done, and I was not disappointed! I think that I could actually get into my own house if I got locked out, although I'd have to buy or make a set of lockpicks, first. Maybe not very useful information for most people, but certainly very interesting!

If you've never done screen printing or photo emulsion stencils, this video will give you the basics. If you need more information on screen printing, Tony's first video covers the process in more detail. If you've ever done any photo emulsion stencils for sand blasting, the only new information here is applying a liquid stencil to the screen rather than using sheet material like Rayzist. This is a good beginner video.

Excellent series. I found the information extremely useful in mold production. I've made silicone molds before, but had never had the specific details of how to properly construct mother molds. I just finished my first mold using these techniques and the results are fantastic. I have to agree with one of the previous reviews that said that some of it could have been edited down, but hey, there's a fast forward button for a reason, too. I'd much rather be faced with too much repetition and detail than not enough. Yes, there's some repetition in the molding sequences, but there are also a lot of tips that are specific to the form being cast. I highly recommend the entire series.
