Pros: - went from start to finish reproducing a simple object - neato graphics showing X-ray view of process - experienced and knowledgeable presenter - good sound and camera editing
Cons: - video was pretty short; double the time with advanced topics would have been better (glad I could rent it!) - didn't explain any alternatives to processes or materials; assumed a well-stocked workbench
Summary: short on breadth and depth, but good for total beginner
Pros: - Mr. Bleile is clear-spoken, obviously an expert, and even a little funny - good coverage of equipment, setup, safety, and techniques - good sound and video, especially considering closeups of process - cohesive, linear, and appropriately dense, presentation - worth the constant rewinding to capture notes
Cons: - doesn't repeat anything, so the safety info must be believed the first time (believe it!)
Summary: hits the spot for beginning welder
This was a pretty good video in that we see the actual process and many of our misconceptions about gas-welding aluminum are put to rest. I am, however, left a little confused about equipment: mention is made of using a Number 1 tip, but earlier he had said something about a special nozzle. I don't know enough about equipment to know if all Number 1's are the same (I have one), or if this is a different Number 1.
Pros: - good videography, clear description of process - knowledgeable and experienced instructor - good description of heat management while welding - demonstrated multiple types of joints
Cons: - could have been a little more detailed regarding equipment (for beginners)
Summary: Worth it.
This video is broken into two parts: a general review of the materials and tools of fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) construction, and a demonstration of building a mold of a part (out of FRP) and then constructing a FRP copy of the part. The whole process is captured and descriptions were clear. A few things were done (e.g. the final part was cast as two halves then attached together in the end) that were not explained. It did seem to simplify construction, but won't the part be a little weaker? I don't know.
Pros: - good videography - experienced instructor - complete procedure demonstrated
Cons: - some techniques were not explained
Summary: Even after reading books and websites, it was nice to see the actual process. Worth the rental.
